Celebrating International Women’s Day
A bit late at the party, as it was already about a week ago that it was International Women’s Day. But celebrating the amazing women who make up the majority of our team at Studio Deloryan is something we don’t want to skip! The gaming and tech industries remain male-dominated, with women making up only 23% of game developers (Women in Games, 2024). But here at our studio, we do things a little differently. Most of our team members are women, and we’re proud of that! Just check our team page and see for yourself, hehe.
A Shout-Out to Our Amazing Team
From development and design to community management and content creation, the women on our team are at the core of everything we do. Horse Reality wouldn’t be the game it is today without them!
We Didn’t Set Out to Be Different. It Just Happened
It’s no secret that women are underrepresented in tech. As of June 2024, only 10.4% of Fortune 500 companies had female CEOs (Fortune, 2024), and in gaming, leadership positions are still mostly held by men. But let’s face it. When making a horse game, you naturally attract horse lovers, and many of them happen to be women! We wouldn’t have it any other way. Having so many women in diverse roles isn’t just about representation, it also makes our team stronger and our game better. Several of our team members are now hitting their 5-year mark and stuck with us all this time. You can decide what that says about us 😉
Doing Our Part Beyond Our Game Studio
Whenever we post job openings, we make sure our descriptions welcome applicants from all backgrounds, so talent and passion take the stage. A more diverse industry benefits everyone by bringing in fresh perspectives, new ideas, and a future where anyone can feel at home in tech and gaming.
Supporting women in tech isn’t just about hiring, but also about visibility. Seeing more women in tech and gaming helps shift the norm and shows aspiring women, or other marginalised groups, that they can have a place in this industry too. That’s why we try to show up where it matters. Whether at game conferences like INDIGO, industry meetups like the DGA network lunches, volunteering at the Dutch Game Awards, or local developer meetups. We want to make sure young women entering the industry see that they can do this too!
International Women’s Day isn’t just about today. It’s about showing up, lifting each other up, and making sure future generations have more role models to look up to. So whether we support women-led projects, make workplaces more inclusive or simply cheer on the women in your life. Every step we take makes a difference!
Happy International Women’s Day everyone! 💜
